Welcome to my blog!

My name is Jens Schrader. I have been working in IT for more than 25 years and ran a small IT services company as a self-employed entrepreneur for 13 years.

In 2020, I switched from self-employment to a full-time position. Why? There were many reasons—not least of which were having more time and stability for my family—but I also wanted to refocus on certain core areas. As a small IT services firm with small and medium-sized clients, you quickly find yourself dealing with additional issues that the client would like resolved—issues that no one has addressed before. But that also means new vendors, new software, and new technologies that you have to spend a lot of time learning if you want to “serve” the client. Add to that the fast-paced world of IT…

These days, I only work with a few existing clients, whom I serve alongside my full-time career.

I was able to focus on the IT networking field.

Everything related to wireless LAN, switches, IoT, infrastructure, planning and design, operations, some pre-sales, project planning, and a few security topics. That’s more than enough to keep me busy in my day-to-day work these days.

Why am I writing this blog?

In my view, information technology is growing at an ever-faster pace. Each new release comes more quickly than the last, and the intervals between device versions aren’t getting any longer either. I enjoy exploring technical topics and developments. In my view, a career in information technology means constantly learning and expanding my knowledge.

I'm writing my own wiki to document specific topics and solutions. But also to reinforce what I've learned and to better understand some of the more in-depth topics.

Who is my blog for? Who am I trying to reach with it?

First and foremost, anyone with a technical background who is interested in topics related to information technology, is looking for solutions, or would like to share their solutions with me. The content of my blog is intended to help others who may be dealing with the same or similar topics or problems.

I’m deliberately writing in German. Many non-fiction books and areas of IT are in English. Most of my study materials, exams, and webinars are in English. But sometimes it really clicks when you come across topics that are also explained in German.

In addition, I will try to provide English translations of the posts, since many members of the communities are not from Germany.

You can also find me on LinkedIn, or you can leave comments or send messages through the blog. Of course, I’d also be very happy to receive a personal email.

Enjoy reading!
